5 Life Giving Things Your Child Needs To Hear *** Monday-Mom-Thoughts

I think ….. a lot!

Sometimes my  mind just doesn’t shut itself off – it’s quite annoying at times.

But, as I’ve been privileged to parent for the last twelve years, look after other children and serve in children’s ministry, I LOVE to continue to learn how to meet these little human’s needs!  What do their hearts need? and how can we set them up for success?

While I continue to read and learn from others before me, I’ve come to know a few words that children NEED to hear in their life!

Here are 5 life giving things children need to hear everyday:

– I love you

I know it’s an obvious one, but the reality is some kids just don’t hear this often enough!  I don’t think we can say this ‘too much’.  Want to make a child feel valuable and secure?….. genuinely tell them you love them each and every day!

– I LIKE you

You might be thinking, ” well, your first point was I love you,….. what’s the difference?”

We love our children unconditionally because they are ours, and they have been given to us to look after and raise. But sometimes we don’t actually like them.

I know this is for all of us – those times when tempers are flailing, disrespect is happening and maybe these kids are just plain annoying! ….. come on parents, can I get a ‘ME TOO!’.

What value though, we can instil, if we take the time to be thankful for our children (annoyances and all) and sincerely tell them how much we like them!   We LIKE being with them, we LIKE seeing their smile, we LIKE raising them and teaching them, and we just simply LIKE who they are! There is a big difference between like and love, and I believe we should demonstrate both towards our children.

– You will succeed!

Pump their tires up! praise their accomplishments and encourage them not to give up in discouraging times. Because they will get discouraged and they will want to give up, but it’s up to us as parents to remind them of their amazing and big purpose in life, and that God wants them to succeed.

When they are being told over and over again that God wants them to succeed and we believe in them, they will feel empowered , strengthened and encouraged to conquer anything.  The thing is …. they are going to fail. They are going to mess up and make mistakes…… like again and again and again.

That’s OK

“I have not failed, I have just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”  – Thomas A. Edison

“There are no mistakes in life, just great learning opportunities.”  – Robert T. Kiyosaki

” Don’t get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up.” Galatians 6:9

Be their biggest fan, and remind them how much you support them to see them succeed.

– I Forgive you

It’s hard knowing that someone’s upset with you. Kids should, and need to deal with consequences for wrong actions, but what an assurance for them to know that you forgive them, and are willing to help them and turn things around.

– You are not alone

Kids need to know that we will never leave them, and that we will represent our Father in heaven to them. Far too many kids feel lonely …. even with many around them.

When one of our children needs to talk, or is having a rough and upsetting time, what valuable assurance to them it is to know that we are there. Taking time to really talk with them and ask them what’s going on in their hearts – it’s precious, and you can’t go wrong. Your presence is powerful!

These are just a few great nuggets that we can speak into our children again and again!

Keep speaking life into our next generation!

Happy Parenting!
